Olympique Marseille vs. Montpellier

Heading into the match on the back of the midweek opening Champions League defeat by AC Milan, Didier Deschamps' team showed no signs of a hangover and raced into a 4-0 lead by the 51st minute through goals from Lucho Gonzalez, Mamadou Niang, Edouard Cisse and Souleymane Diawara. Late goals from Younes Belhanda and Souleymane Camara (penalty) gave the scoreline some respectability for the previously unbeaten visitors

The home side took the lead in the 31st minute, Niang bursting down the left and crossing for Argentinian Gonzalez to slot past Geoffrey Jourdren from the penalty spot. Two minutes later the hosts' advantage was doubled, Niang picked up possession on the right, dribbled past three defenders and then unleashed a fine left-footed shot across Jourdren.

Marseille made in 3 goals in six minutes Gonzalez releasing Cisse who made no mistake with the finish.

Six minutes after the break the home team were four goals to the good, Diawara climbing higher than the Montpellier defence to head powerfully home. By this time Montpellier where resigned to a dreaded drubbing at the hands of Olympique Marseille.

But they managed to take some consolation 15 minutes from time when Costa got the better of three Marseille defenders and freed Belhanda for a stunning low shot which went in via the left-hand post.

Montpellier reduced the deficit still further two minutes from time when Camara slotted a low penalty past Steve Mandanda after handball by Cisse, but it was not enough to prevent a healthy home win.
